On this tour from Marrakech to the desert and Fez, you will visit the most amazing part of Morocco's Sahara and contemplate some of the country's most impressive and diverse landscapes. In a comfortable 4x4 or minivan, we cross roads, dirt tracks, valleys, mountain passes, gorges, dunes and Berber villages full of culture and history, ending in Fez.
4 Days / 3 Nights — Day by day
Morning departure from your hotel/riad via the highest pass in the Atlas Mountains (2,260m), Tizi-n-Tichka. You'll explore Berber villages with photo stops along the way, heading to the famous Kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou (UNESCO World Heritage Site), set of many films including Lawrence of Arabia, Game of Thrones and Gladiator. On your way to the Dades Gorges you'll see Berber farmers in Skoura. There you'll appreciate the tranquility of the Atlas Mountains and get a glimpse of daily Berber-nomad life isolated by the quiet mountains. Check into the hotel.
Breakfast, then a short walk between the beautiful canyons before heading for Merzouga through the Todra Gorges, where you'll stop to refresh yourself in the cold river water. Arrival in Merzouga, home to Morocco's only genuine Saharan erg (250m high dunes). Your camels are loaded up and you'll ride off across the ocean of golden sand, appreciating the pure beauty of the landscape on the way to camp. Night in the middle of the dunes, under a nomadic tent.
Waking up early to enjoy the sunrise over the dunes, camel ride back to the hotel for breakfast, then exploring the area via the road of the Paris-Dakar rally through the two oases of Merzouga. Arrival in Khamlia village to enjoy a Gnawa music show, then the Mifiss mines and a meeting with nomadic Berbers at the Tissardmine oasis. Arrival at the hotel in time to watch the sunset over the dunes. Dinner and night in the hotel.
One last chance to wake up and witness the beautiful sunrise from the top of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Breakfast at the hotel, then transfer to Erfoud heading to Fez through the Ziz Valley, with a lunch stop in Midelt, then the famed Middle Atlas cedar forest with its Barbary apes. Late afternoon arrival in Fez, drop-off at your riad/hotel with unforgettable memories. Check into the hotel, end of the trip.
