Marrakech to Zagora — the southern Sahara
On this Zagora Desert Tour from Marrakech you will visit the southern part of the Sahara and the most amazing desert landscapes of Morocco. In a comfortable 4×4 or high-end minibus with air conditioning, we will cross roads, valleys, kasbahs, mountain passes, gorges, desert, and Berber villages rich in history and culture.
2 Days / 1 Night — Day by day
Morning departure from Marrakech toward the Sahara, crossing the High Atlas via the Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260m). Stop at the famous Kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou — a UNESCO World Heritage site known from Lawrence of Arabia, Tea in the Sahara, Game of Thrones and Gladiator. Visit of the fortified Kasbah and lunch on the square. In the afternoon, road towards Ouarzazate — the gateway to the desert — then continue through the Anti-Atlas, the Berber village of Agdez, and the stunning Draa Valley with its procession of palm trees. Via the legendary Timbuktu 52 days sign in Zagora, we swap the 4×4 for camels, riding out to admire the sunset and spending the night under a nomadic tent. Dinner and overnight in the bivouac.
Early morning wake-up to watch the sunrise over the dunes. Breakfast, then camel ride back to Zagora where the 4×4 awaits. Departure to Ouarzazate via the Draa Valley and Agdez. In Ouarzazate, visit the Taourirt Kasbah and the famous Film Studios. Lunch on the way. Then the road back to Marrakech through the Atlas Mountains in the afternoon, with scenic photo stops along the route. Arrival in Marrakech — end of the trip.
